When the Waves Come

"Being a mom of 3, I know what it’s like to want the very best for your child, and at the same time feel uncertain about how to give them what they need. Sometimes it’s hard to identify the needs, which feels scary. Having spent time watching and learning from our therapists' interactions with the children and talking to other Mom’s, this has truly become a passion project of giving back. Not only to provide services to these kiddos, but to offer a place to feel supported on the parenting journey."

Meet Our Directors

Shannon Becker

Director

I began my incredible journey with Young Minds Development Center in April 2021, starting as the Program Coordinator and preschool teacher. In June 2023, I stepped into the role of Assistant Director, and by August 2024, I proudly became the Director. My mission for Young Minds is to foster a safe, loving, and nurturing environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive through high-quality care and early education.

With over 20 years of experience working with children, I have cherished every moment of my career. My passion for nurturing young minds began at 15, when I took my first job as an after-school care assistant at the elementary school I attended. Since then, I have worked with children of all ages in diverse and meaningful ways.

My journey has included being a first-grade teacher assistant, an EMT transporting pediatric behavioral patients, a caseworker supporting DCS families striving for reunification, and a mental health technician for preteens and adolescents in a residential behavioral hospital.

Through all these experiences, one thing has remained constant: children have taught me far more than I could ever teach them. They remind me to embrace the magic of life, practice patience, and love with my whole heart.

When I’m not running my center, I love spending time with the love of my life, Brad. Together, we share our home with three crazy but loving dogs: Lambeau/Beau (a nod to Brad’s passion for the Green Bay Packers), Rosie, and Dopey. Summers are for outdoor adventures—camping, concerts, festivals, and time with friends and family. In the winter, we enjoy cozy nights indoors, binge-watching favorite TV shows, and hosting family game nights.

Tierra

Assistant Director

Tierra joined the YMDC family in 2020. Prior to joining the team she graduated from “ American Musical & Dramatic Academy” studying musical theatre. She has many years of working with children of all ages. Nourishing the minds of children and creating a rich environment for them to explore is such a rewarding gift. As well as inspiring creativity and helping them explore the world around them.
